Mick Vukota

Mick Vukota was born on September 14, 1966 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He played his junior hockey in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with three different teams - Winnipeg Warriors, Kelowna Wings and Spokane Chiefs. During his four years in the WHL there was no doubt that Mick Vukota was an enforcer. The 6"2' right winger was a tough customer, racking up over 900 penalty minutes. In 1987 he was signed as a free agent by the New York Islanders. Mick began with the Islander organization in 1987-88, playing with the Springfield Indians of the American Hockey League (AHL) before getting his first taste of the NHL later that season.

Mick Vukota spent the majority of the next seven seasons playing in the NHL with the New York Islanders. He provided them with toughness and grit but not much more. in 1997 he was claimed on waivers by the Tampa Bay Lightning. After just 42 games in Florida, Mick was traded to the Montreal Canadiens with Patrick Poulin and Igor Ulanov for Stephane Richer, Darcy Tucker and David Wilkie. His stint in Montreal lasted the 22 games remaining in the 1997-98 season. After that, he spent two seasons with the Utah Girzzlies of the Internatioanl Hockey League (IHL). At the end of his NHL career, Mick Vukota had played 575 games and racked up 2071 penalty minutes.
